“Ditch the dream and be a doer, not a dreamer,” Shonda Rhimes told the Dartmouth class of 2014.
I’ll be honest. I’m a doer and a dreamer.
Back in 2004, tucked away in my Sydney apartment, I typed up a list of random goals, plans and notes. While certain notes no longer make sense to me – “Like the way Bob Dylan went to New York and did his thing” – others stand out. “Publish yourself – magazines, web sites, etc.,” is one such note.
At the time, it was a dream. I spent most of the next ten years travelling the world, living a different dream. But somewhere in there, I ditched the dream and brought ought my inner doer.
In early 2009, shortly after moving to the USA, I founded Mama’s A Rolling Stone, a digital fashion magazine. During my time at the helm, I grew the audience to 90k UVs/month; the site appeared in the March 2010 issue of Vogue magazine; top tastemakers such as Jessica Alba followed the site; and I worked with brands such as Jennifer Lopez, Ella Moss, Nivea, and Marc Jacobs Fragrances. In 2013, after I returned to live in Australia, I sold the site to a New York-based editorial team.
Currently, I am the founder and editor of Stylish 365, a global multimedia brand for millennial women.
Through our website, daily newsletter and social channels, the Stylish 365 goal is to inspire and empower women around the world to balance style with substance – whether the subject is style, daily life, travel, work or current events. And it’s working. We’re growing every day.
In addition, I’m writing on business and entrepreneurship for publications such as Girlboss, Marie Claire, Collective Hub and Foundr.
In a nutshell, my passion for inspiring women is coupled with my drive to do big things. I don’t just want to talk the talk; with Stylish 365, I am walking the walk – thinking big, striving for a better tomorrow, taking risks. Dreaming AND doing.
